Why Couples Therapy?

A successful relationship requires consistent effort and dedication from both partners. However, communication problems can often arise, making it challenging to maintain a healthy relationship. These issues may stem from past resentments, unmet expectations, or mistakes made by one or both partners.

As a couples therapist, my role is to help repair communication and facilitate a collaborative effort between both partners to work towards a healthier relationship. This may involve helping each partner identify and express their needs and concerns, developing healthy communication strategies, and addressing any underlying issues that may be affecting the relationship.

Through therapy, both partners can learn to overcome obstacles and work together towards common goals. By fostering effective communication and mutual understanding, couples can build a stronger, more resilient relationship. Overall, couples therapy can be a valuable tool for those looking to strengthen their relationship and build a happier, more fulfilling life together.

How it works

Couples therapy focuses on the relationship between partners, rather than just one individual. The therapy is brief, solution-focused, and geared towards achieving specific therapeutic goals. During the first session, issues are explored, and goals are established. These goals are then worked on and monitored throughout subsequent sessions.

As therapy progresses, my office becomes a safe space where partners can discuss their problems without fear of judgment or retribution. In this environment, couples learn healthier ways to express their needs and feelings to each other. By utilizing specific interventions and techniques, hurtful and destructive patterns in the relationship can be identified and changed, leading to a stronger, more open, and meaningful connection.

As progress is made, the frequency of sessions will be reduced to every other week, allowing couples to practice and apply the skills they have learned. Ultimately, couples therapy can help partners build a deeper understanding of each other and establish healthier patterns of communication and behavior.

One of the key goals of couples therapy is to foster healthier patterns of communication and interaction between partners. This involves learning to communicate effectively and openly, while avoiding blame, defensiveness, and power struggles. I will help you recognize these patterns and provide guidance on how to avoid them in the future.

Through modeling and demonstration, you will learn healthy ways to communicate and relate to each other, ultimately strengthening the quality of your relationship.
